Analyzing and Modeling the Structural and Qualitative Interdependencies of Software Evolution
Abstract— In the context of software evolution management, we present a global modeling approach aiming
at a better analysis of a change impact and its propagation in developed software. We consider two major
modeling aspects under which an intended change should be considered. These are structural and qualitative
dimensions of impacts of projected software change. With the proposed modeling approach, we consider the
established models for tracing the qualitative change impact flow associated to the targeted software
evolution. The approach is validated with the help of a prototype framework that includes the software
specific information data gathering and automatic mechanisms aiming at structural and qualitative change
impact analysis. Resulting detailed analysis is destined to help the decision-making in various cases of
software evolution and maintenance.
